Inspired by scenic KwaZulu-Natal, Mission Village is set against a backdrop of rolling green hills, with huts, cattle, donkey, general dealer and the mission station charmingly depicted. Selected for the 2000-2001 Portfolio Collection Bed & Breakfast cover, it served as the first Carol Mangiagalli artwork featured on a Portfolio Collection cover.
Carol Mangiagalli is possibly South Africa’s foremost naïve artist whose whimsical, charming and colourful works reflect everyday rural, village or city life with a quirky sense of humour. Carol paints the frames for each work and eight of her artworks have graced the covers of the Portfolio Bed & Breakfast and Portfolio Retreats Collection between 2000 to 2011.
